The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a Boston Scientific Corp. stent for use in patients with renal artery disease.
The Natick company’s Express SD Renal Monorail Premounted Stent System is used in addition to renal angioplasty in certain renal arteries, the company said. The narrowing of the blood supply to the kidneys can lead to high blood pressure or poor kidney function.
The new stent system helps prevent the re-narrowing of those arteries after angioplasty, the company said.
