A state and national overview of future growth and development in the suburbs will be the focus of this year's 495/MetroWest Partnership's Annual Conference scheduled to be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough on June 4 starting at 8:30 a.m.
Robert Lang, director of Virginia Tech's Metropolitan Institute in Blacksburg, Va., will be the keynote speaker. The institute's professionals, including Lang, research and write about national and international development patterns.
Lang has written several books including, "Edgeless Cities: Exploring the Elusive Metropolis" and "Bloomburbs: The Rise of America's Accidental Cities." Lang is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, a national public policy think tank in Washington, D.C.
"We thought it was very important to have him come speak to us about what's going on nationally in suburban development," said Paul Matthews, the partnership's director.
Bob Brustlin, president and CEO of Vanasse Hangin Brustlin Inc. of Watertown, a planning and development consulting firm, will also speak about what he is seeing across the state and New England.
And Eric Nakajima, a senior policy advisor with the state's Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, is also scheduled to speak. Nakajima helped research and put together the state's "A Framework for Action: The State Regional Economic Development Strategy."
There will also be awards given to John Strickland, an executive with the Bose Corp. in Framingham, and John Stasik of Framingham.
The event is free. Registration deadline is Thursday, May 28. The hotel is at 5400 Computer Drive.
To register for the event, contact Andrea Geffert at 774-760-0495, ext. 100, or send her an e-mail at Andrea@495partnership.org.
