Evergreen Solar Panels Approved For British Incentive Plan

The British government has approved Marlborough-based solar panel manufacturer Evergreen Solar Inc.'s panels for inclusion in the country's renewable energy incentive plan.

The plan is known as the "Renewables Cash-Back Scheme," and was established earlier this year. Under the scheme, homeowners and communities that install "low carbon electricity" systems, including solar panels, are paid for the electricity they generate, even if they use it themselves.

Solar projects undertaken as part of the scheme must use only approved panels to be eligible for funding.

The company said the certification is "a major step forward in expanding our business in the United Kingdom."

In May, the United Kingdom certified Evergreen's panels as suitable for use in coastal areas because they stand up well to sea mist.
