Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. earned $546.4 million in profit during the quarter that ended June 30, up 28.2 percent from $426.2 million during the same quarter a year prior, the company reported this morning.
Revenues for the second quarter were $4.8 billion, an increase of 20.4 percent from $4 billion a year before.

The company's revenue from United States-based customers, which made up just over half of revenues, reached $2.5 billion, an increase of 17 percent from the second quarter last year.
