As it approaches its 200th year, The EcoTarium in Worcester is embarking on a $35 million plan to upgrade its facilities.
The science and nature center has already raised $2.3 million, which includes a $1 million donation from the Worcester-based Hanover Insurance Group.
The development initiative is called the Third Century Plan, and it will improve the center’s exhibits, wildlife habitats, programming and amenities.
Phase one of the plan is underway and includes $8.2 million in improvements, including the expansion of the EcoTarium’s top floor, which is expected to be complete next year.
