Worcester Community Action Council has named Kristen Lemire as the anti-poverty nonprofit’s new board chair.
Lemire currently serves as director of customer enablement products at National Grid, whose New England headquarters is located in Waltham. In her new role, Lemire will work to increase WCAC’s impact throughout Central Massachusetts and bolster its programs to support community members in reaching economic stability and independence, according to a Friday press release.
“Kristen’s leadership comes at a crucial time as we continue to address the heightened needs of our community exacerbated by recent economic challenges. Her vision for collaboration and innovation aligns perfectly with WCAC’s strategic goals,” WCAC CEO Marybeth Campbell said in the release.
Lemire takes over as board chair from Karen Walker, the assistant vice president of advancement at Springfield Technical Community College, according to her LinkedIn profile.
“I am honored to serve as Chair of WCAC and to support its mission of breaking the cycle of poverty through advocacy, partnerships, and direct service,” Lemire said in the release. “WCAC plays a vital role in empowering individuals and families on their path to self-sufficiency by fostering equitable access to education, career pathways, and essential resources.”
Having generated $43.14 million in revenue in the fiscal year ending on Sept. 30, 2023, WCAC is the 16th largest human services nonprofit in Central Massachusetts when ranked by revenue for the most recent fiscal year available by WBJ’s Research Department. At the time, the nonprofit had accumulated $14.52 million in assets with 150 employees.
