A computer virus may have compromised sensitive information about individuals and businesses using the state Division of Unemployment Insurance system, the state announced yesterday.
Information such as names, social security numbers, employer identification numbers, email addresses, and the addresses and bank information of residents and businesses could have been compromised, the state said.
The breach began on April 20 and was identified and stopped yesterday. The state says the breach is no longer active.
It could impact as many as 1,500 computers in the Division of Unemployment Insurance and Department of Career Services operations, including at the career center's One Stop Career Centers.
The breach likely only impacted residents and businesses that file information manually. It's expected that about 1,200 of the 180,000 businesses that use the system file manually.
The state has set up a phone number for residents and business owners to call for additional information. The phone number is 877-232-6200.
