Consumer Inflation At 3.8 Percent

Prices for urban customers both in the Northeast and across the nation rose 3.8 percent between August 2010 and August 2011, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Inflation for housing, fuel and utilities grew faster than average in the Northeast at 2 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively, compared with 1.6 percent and 3.1 percent for the country.

Apparel and transportation prices also rose more in the Northeast, while the cost of food and beverages rose slightly less.

The BLS also reported that average weekly earnings in the U.S., after adjusting for inflation, fell 1.8 percent year-over-year in August.
