Developer eyes former bakery as new home for Central Supply Co.
According to county land records, Condron purchased 75 Quinsigamond on Nov. 5 from Missouri-based Interstate Brands. Condron, through his family's Six Academy LLC, paid $5.5 million for the property.
The purchase allowed Interstate, which is in federal Chapter 11 bankruptcy, to pay back $14,000 in taxes to the City of Worcester.
Condron said the property is valuable because of its location, especially its proximity to Route 146, which is only a block away.
According to land records, Condron has already arranged a lease that moves his Granite Group Wholesalers business in Concord, N.H., to 75 Quinsigamond.
The purchase of 75 Quinsigamond, which is in the city's Green Island neighborhood, brings the number of Worcester commercial properties owned by Condron to three. He owns the Central Supply building at 12 E. Worcester St. and the adjacent 89 Shrewsbury St., home of the Via Italian Table restaurant.
Both of those properties are models of industrial property renovation and reuse. Condron's Worcester Realty LLC recently won a "Silver Hammer" award from the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce for the $1.8 million renovation of 89 Shrewsbury St., a former mattress factory, repair shop and city public works and maintenance building. He won the same award in 1986 for the renovation of the Brewer Pharmaceutical Building at 12 E. Worcester St.
Condron said he doesn't yet know what kind of work the Quinsigamond Avenue property may need, and he does not have any specific timetable or schedule for work there.
