We applaud Worcester City Manager Michael O’Brien and his commitment to marketing Worcester and all the strategic assets our great city possesses. As the second-largest city in New England, we must focus our marketing efforts on all target markets within Worcester and the region.
Incorporated in 1967, with records dating back to 1922, the Central Massachusetts Convention & Visitors Bureau (CMCVB) and the Worcester County Convention and Visitors Bureau have a long and successful history of marketing and promoting the city of Worcester and surrounding regions. The CMCVB is the lead agency for the region and has forged well-established relationships with key partners throughout our various target markets, led by our dedicated 25-member board of directors with countless years of industry experience.
In terms of the various marketing organizations, it is time to come together and identify who is doing what, how we can collectively market the area more effectively and efficiently and eliminate redundancy. It is key that we establish synergies between like organizations while maintaining our own individual missions, scope of services and marketing goals.
The CMCVB completely supports thoughtful partnerships and consolidation of services at the city, state, and regional levels — pooling resources, time and talent. This kind of collaboration would strengthen and enhance all of our overall marketing efforts and would maximize limited budgets in this challenging economy.
The CMCVB has always held its commitment to the city by maintaining a constant presence in the downtown area. Our office was previously located at Worcester Center Boulevard before being housed at the Worcester Historical Museum in preparation for the proposed 146 Visitors Center project. We still maintain our base of operations within Worcester at 91 Prescott St.
The CMCVB is committed to partnering with the city administration as well as our fellow marketing organizations such as the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Worcester Business Development Corp., regional partners and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. We truly recognize the power of collaborating by sharing resources, talent and common office space. The chamber and the CMCVB have a long-standing partnership and have worked successfully together under one roof before.
We are eager and excited to be at the table as a partnering contributor. The CMCVB has such a long and successful history within Worcester that we believe the city manager’s proposal deserves serious consideration. We are fully committed to answering the call of both Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and City Manager O’Brien to come together, roll up our collective sleeves and be a contributing partner in discussing ideas and solutions for promoting Worcester and the Central Massachusetts region.
Larry Davis of Davis Farmland and Mega Maze in Sterling, is the chairman of the Central Massachusetts Convention and Visitors Bureau. Donna McCabe is president of the CMCVB.
