Clean Energy Council Sour On House Budget

The Boston-based New England Clean Energy Council and the Washington, D.C.-based Clean Economy Network have sent a joint letter complaining about the U.S. House Budget Committee proposal's impact on energy.

The letter warns that a lack of funding for clean energy would allow China and Europe to dominate the industry. It also criticizes the idea of rolling back funding for environmentally friendly energy sources while maintaining subsidies to oil and gas companies, which the groups say distort energy competitiveness.

It says clean energy companies need government support to survive the "valley of death" stage of technology development in which new energy production methods are unable to attract enough private funding to reach the commercialization stage.
