Clark University has been given a $12-million federal grant to provide business technology training to people struggling to find work.
The Worcester school, which announced the funding Tuesday, is the only academic institution in Massachusetts involved in the national program, which includes five other colleges and 12 workforce development boards. The Boston Private Industry Council and the Deshpande Innovation Network, which is affiliated with a Massachusetts Institute of Technology innovation center, are a part of the program.
Clark will receive administrative, programming and partner coordination from the Public Consulting Group of Boston. How many workers Clark will help train and how was not detailed.
The program, called Tech Quest, aims to provide information technology apprenticeships to at least 5,000 people in the next four years across eight states, including Massachusetts. Through the apprenticeship program, those struggling to find work or are stuck in part-time jobs will be matched with employers to receive on-the-job training and academic training.
Fields with high demand for workers, including business analysts and data scientists, are eyed as part of the Tech Quest program.
