Anyone who has used public transportation in Boston will feel right at home later this month when the Worcester Regional Transit Authority installs a new bus pass and farebox system that will usher in the use of Charlie Cards in the city.
The cards, issued by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, are reusable, rechargeable ticket. The cards can also be used for any MBTA fixed route or subway, but not commuter rail.
The WRTA will offer a one-day pass, 31-day pass or the Charlie Card, which will replace the 10-day pass option. Those with remaining rides on an existing 10-day pass need to either use them before April 27 or load the balance onto a Charlie Card by June 30 at 287 Grove St., the WRTA's headquarters.
There will be free bus fare the weekend of April 28 when the new systems are installed. Representatives will be available at City Hall plaza that weekend to help riders understand the changes.
