The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation awarded nearly $70,000 to three Central Massachusetts nonprofits to provide healthy food to the community.
The goal of the Waltham foundation is to improve the standards of living conditions and value of health care for the residents within the communities the insurance company Harvard Pilgrim Health Care serves.
In 2019, the foundation has donated $1.26 million in grants throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine.
The Regional Environmental Council in Worcester was awarded $20,000 for its Mobile Farmers’ Market Initiative. The Worcester REC will utilize its funds to support its current farmer’s markets within the community, giving more citizens access to fresh produce from local farms around the city.
Leominster’s Growing Places initiative received nearly $25,000 to further its goal of growing its volunteer involvement and setting up underserved North Central Mass. communities with healthy and fresh produce.
North Grafton will use its $25,000 grant for its Community Harvest Project, whose goal is to improve the amount of fresh produce grown and distributed to its partners. The project also strives to grow its community outreach by pushing its educational programming.
