Nationwide housing construction starts rose 15 percent month-over-month to 629,000 in June, according to the Commerce Department.

An estimated 435,000 of those were single-family homes.

The number of building permits pulled nationwide also rose 2.5 percent compared to the month before in June, and was up 6.7 percent compared to last year.
