Customers of Natick-based BJ’s Wholesale Club bought snacks, TVs, toys, office supplies and small appliances to the tune of an 8.6 percent sales increase for the month of September, the company said.
September sales totaled $798.9 million. Same store sales increased by 3.9 percent despite a negative impact of 0.4 percent as a result of the absence of pharmacy sales at BJ’s clubs. In September of 2006, BJ’s reported a same store sales decrease of 0.9 percent as a result of decreased gasoline sales.
Departments that were weaker compared to last year included apparel, cigarettes, furniture, pre-recorded video, seafood and tires, the company said.
