While other businesses are struggling during the coronavirus economic downturn, Westborough’s BJ’s Wholesale Club is expanding with two new stores in New York.

The two stores, and the associated gas stations, will be located in Long Island City and Newburgh. When they open in early 2021, they will be the company’s 220th and 221st locations.

The locations join a recently opened gas station in Chesterfield, Mich. among the company’s latest expansions.

The announcements mark continued good business for the wholesale club retailer focusing on pricing. As other retailers have struggled during the coronavirus pandemic, BJ’s saw sales jump by 27% when the pandemic first hit the states.

Those strong sales yielded a spike in profits, up 167% in the first quarter compared to the previous year, and a year-to-date stock price increase of more than 82%.
