Marlborough-based BJ’s Wholesale Club has announced a change in its C-suite team, naming Scott Schmadeke as executive vice president, chief operations officer, effective immediately.

In his new role, Schmadeke will oversee BJ’s distribution centers, logistics, and asset protection and safety, according to a Tuesday press release. He began his tenure at the wholesale retailer in 2018 and has since spearheaded updates within the company’s perishable distribution centers.

Along with Schmadeke’s appointment, BJ’s current Senior Vice President, Operations Krystyna Kostka has been named chief supply chain officer. Having joined BJ’s in 2014 in her role leading fuel operations, Kostka has been responsible for club and distribution center operations infrastructure and has previously supported the retailer’s implementation of robotics and automation throughout its distribution centers.

“Scott and Krystyna are dynamic leaders with deep knowledge of our company and impressive records at BJ’s,” Bob Eddy, BJ’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in the release. “These changes will ensure that we continue to offer world-class service to our members and drive efficiency across our network as we deliver unbeatable value and profitable growth. I look forward to continuing to work with Scott and Krystyna as we take care of the families who depend on us.”

Schmadeke and Kostka are assuming roles formerly held by BJ’s Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer Jeff Desroches, who resigned from his positions on Nov. 5, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Founded in 1984, BJ’s operates seven clubs and one fuel station in Central Massachusetts throughout Auburn, Northborough, Hudson, Leominster, Uxbridge, Framingham, and Franklin.
