Boosted by a growth in membership over the past five years, Marlborough-based BJ’s Wholesale Club is opening a distribution center in Commercial Point, Ohio and is on the verge of establishing its 250th club location.
Expected to open in early 2027, the new distribution center focused on ambient temperature goods will be the company’s fourth and will help support the operations of eight BJ’s clubs in Ohio.
“Our business has grown meaningfully over the years, and we continue to invest in our supply chain to better serve members,” Krystyna Kostka, senior vice president, chief supply chain officer at BJ’s Wholesale, said in a Tuesday press release announcing the distribution center. “With the opening of this new distribution center, we’ll have the agility to support our clubs more efficiently than ever.”
BJ’s Wholesale now has approximately 7.5 million members, representing 35% growth over the past five years. In that timeframe, the firm has opened more than 30 clubs. BJ’s Wholesale will open its 250th club when a new location opens in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday.
The firm’s new Ohio distribution center will be 500,000 square feet and focus on groceries and other goods not requiring refrigeration. The center sits on a 125-acre site, allowing for possible future expansion.
Founded in 1984, BJ’s Wholesale operates seven Central Massachusetts clubs and one fuel station in Central Massachusetts in Auburn, Northborough, Hudson, Leominster, Uxbridge, Framingham, and Franklin, according to its website. The firm announced it would be raising its club member fee in November.
