Berkey Joins STEM Council

Dennis D. Berkey, president of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has been named to Gov. Deval Patrick’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Advisory Council.

The STEM council was established in October to bring together public and private parties to promote student interest and preparation for work in science-related fields.

Berkey has been president of WPI since 2004. Before that, he served in various higher education positions over 30 years. He is also a teacher and author of several mathematics textbooks and has done research in applied mathematics.

Berkey serves on the boards of UMass Memorial Health Care Inc., the Massachusetts Biomedical Initiative, the Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Initiative and the Worcester Regional Research Bureau. He is also a member of the Massachusetts High Technology Council.
