Bay State Jobless Rate Down To 9.3%

The state's unemployment rate dipped to 9.3 percent in March from 9.5 percent the previous month, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

During the month, the state added 7,600 jobs after gaining 4,000 in February. Since January, the rate of job loss was 1.6 percent.

Sectors that continued losing jobs in March included construction, manufacturing, financial activities and the trade, transportation and utilities sector.

Jobs gains were reported in education, health services, retail and arts, entertainment and recreation.

The labor office said an increasing number of unemployed residents are entering the job market as prospects improve.

The national unemployment rate in March was 9.7 percent.
