The Baker Administration has awarded $7 million in funding to help support seven advanced manufacturing projects across the state.
Gov. Charlie Baker and Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash made the announcement Friday at UMass Amherst.
According to a press release from Baker’s office, the funding will be distributed by the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2) and will support research and development infrastructure in leading manufacturing sectors like advanced functional fabrics, integrated photonics, robotics and flexible-hybrid electronics.
“Advanced sensors, smart construction materials and adaptable clothing are just a few of the innovative products that will be developed in Massachusetts’ evolving manufacturing sector over the coming decades,” Baker said.. “These awards will ensure the commonwealth remains a leader in advanced manufacturing to spur job growth and train students for valuable career opportunities.”
According to the Governor’s office, the administration has committed more than $100 million in funding over five years to the M2I2 effort, which invests in the Manufacturing USA program.
The awards will fund seven projects from four of the national manufacturing institutes: California-based NetFlex, Cambridge-based Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, New York-based AIM Photonics and Pennsylvania-based ARM.
