ArtsWorcester opening new Printers Building space

ArtsWorcester, an arts exhibitor and nonprofit, will unveil its new space in Worcester’s Printers Building by opening a new exhibit Saturday.

In an homage to its new home, ArtsWorcester’s exhibit, called Paperphilia, will include more than 50 works referring to what the nonprofit calls the possibilities of paper. The Printers Building was built roughly a century ago by a series of printers, the last of which moved out last year.

The building has since been renovated to accommodate new uses, including ArtsWorcester and startup incubator spaces Technocopia and Worcester CleanTech Incubator. The building, on Portland Street in Downtown Worcester, is owned by Davis Publications, a textbooks publisher with its headquarters there.

ArtsWorcester is occupying 3,000 square feet in what it says is a better layout for displaying art than its previous home in the Aurora Building on Main Street, which had columns and was not compliant with accessibility codes.

The new space has large storefront windows, original industrial floors and what the nonprofit says is museum-quality lighting.
