AMSC Receives $10M For Spanish Wind Project

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. says it has received an order worth more than $10 million for wind turbine equipment in Spain.

AMSC will provide its Dynamic Ride Through equipment to allow wind turbines to be connected to the grid. The order was placed by international renewable energy company Acciona Energy. The AMSC equipment will enable wind turbines to continue operating smoothly by "riding through" disturbances on power grids.

Spain has the world's third-largest wind power market with more than 16,000 megawatts of wind power already installed. Voltage dips can disconnect wind turbines from the grid. The operator of Spain's transmission system requires that turbines remain connected through such events.
