Ameresco, the Framingham-based energy efficiency contractor, has inked a 20-year, $30 million contract with the San Francisco Housing Authority.
The contract is expected to save the SFHA $3.5 million a year and $60 million during the life of the contract. Upgrades will include new lighting and heating fixtures, as well as new boilers, furnaces, decentralized heating systems and the use of cogeneration utilities that simultaneously produce heat and electricity. Construction will begin next month and will take about two years, the company said.
The deal is the second contract with the SFHA that Ameresco has won. Earlier this year, the Housing Authority used $11.7 million worth of federal stimulus funds to pay for window and piping upgrades.
