AIS, a Leominster-based commercial office furniture manufacturer, has signed the AARP Pledge and is implementing an age-inclusive workforce, the company said in a press release last Thursday.
The AARP Pledge cites that the population is living longer and thereby working longer. The number of older workers aged 65 and older is expected to increase by 51% and those 75 and older by 105%, according to the release.
In addition to providing diversity and supporting experienced workers, hiring and retaining older employees saves companies countless hours of recruitment efforts and training while reducing associated financial costs of replacing workers.
Currently, AIS has a workforce of 800 employees with 40% of these individuals over the age of 50. Through the AARP pledge, AIS has said that it is committed to supporting an age-diverse workforce.
“We are proud to have embraced an inclusive culture and I can tell you that it works," said President of AIS Nick Haritos. "Whether someone is just starting out in their career, are well into their workplace experience, or now act as a mentor to younger workers, they all bring valuable knowledge and perspectives.”
