Director, NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Worcester
Age: 39
Career highlights: I am currently in my dream job as the director of the Neighbor-Works Homeownership Center. I had served my community as a loan officer with Worcester Community Housing Resources for the previous seven years. Since graduating high school I have washed dishes, made pizza and worked in banking, human services and recruiting. Each of my experiences builds on my passion for service to others. I hope to be able to share my passion with the people I encounter. I am still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I am enjoying trying to figure it out.
Community involvement: I participate in my children’s school council at Jacob Hiatt Magnet School. In the past 10 years I have served on the boards for Edward Street Child Services, ¿Oíste? and Centro Las Americas. I am currently working on establishing a Worcester/Central Massachusetts chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, a nonprofit organization focused on expanding opportunities for Latino leadership.
Biggest success: In the past three years, we have seen the impact of the housing bubble deflating. It has been amazing to be part of a team of individuals and resources in the region to not only hold ground but help turn the momentum of the housing market.
Biggest challenge: The biggest challenge for me has been finding a balance between family, work and community. The one question I ask of every leader I have encountered is, “How do you find that balance?” Each answer has been a unique lesson in life for me.
Mentors: Sometimes someone does not need to be in your life but for a blink of an eye and they leave a lasting impression. Others may stay longer and have little effect. I aspire to recognize those moments each day.
