Associate/Project Manager, Tighe & Bond
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Westborough
Age: 37
Career highlights: I joined Tighe & Bond in Worcester in 2005 as a project manager and became a firm associate in 2009. My career in civil/environmental engineering began in 1994 at VHB in Watertown. Prior to full-time employment at VHB, I held co-op student positions at VHB and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Following graduating from the University of Massachusetts, I became a registered professional engineer, a licensed site professional and earned a master’s degree in environmental engineering.
Community involvement: This year will mark my fifth Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) to help raise money for the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber. I also volunteered this year at the PMC-Kids event in Westborough, where I live. In Westborough, I continue to volunteer as a soccer coach, which I have done for many years.
Biggest success: As an environmental consultant, my primary responsibilities are managing and directing the assessment and cleanup of contaminated properties. I have been very successful in building a professional practice around helping property owners position previously developed and contaminated sites toward future redevelopment. One component of this success has been the ability to become an expert in demolition engineering of large structures.
Mentors: I have had many mentors, starting back to my first job at a local farm. At this farm, I was “nudged” often by an 80-year-old man, who helped me establish a strong work ethic that carried on through the years. My father, also an engineer, continued to help me build a strong foundation around hard work, ethics, and education.
Hidden talents: I enjoy carpentry and home renovation work. I also hate to admit it, but I can ride a unicycle.
