Todd K. Helwig
Age: 38
Title: Associate
Company: Mirick O'Connell
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Northborough
College: Bucknell University
Career highlights: I am a real estate attorney. My practice focuses mainly on conveyancing, leasing and environmental issues. In college, I was a geography major. My initial interest in maps, plans and spatial relationships transitioned nicely into a career in which I work on issues affecting the built and natural environments.
Community involvement: I am on the Town of Northborough’s Conservation Commission and Community Preservation Commission. I also work with the Community Preservation Coalition at the state level advocating for the continued success of the Community Preservation Act. I enjoy working with people to solve problems, especially when I can help a business or individual comply with a government regulation in a cost effective and sensible manner.
Biggest professional success: Finding a career in which I enjoy what I do and who I do it with.
Dream job: My ultimate dream job is to be a tenured professor of geography at a small Midwestern liberal arts college.
Businessperson he admires most and why: My father. He is in marketing and sales. I did not realize how good he was at what he did until recently.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I would be an attorney with the federal government. I went to law school in D.C. and worked at several federal agencies. The issues are always unique.
Favorite movie: Chinatown. Only movie I know of with a scene in the registry of deeds.
If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you? The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner. It reads differently every time.
