Title: Director Community Service Programs
Company: United Way
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Paxton
College: Framingham State College, Worcester State College and University of Massachusetts
Career highlights: I work at United Way of Central Massachusetts, which strives to strengthen communities so that each of its members has an opportunity to become self sufficient and successful members of society. In my role, I am responsible for mobilizing the community to take action through volunteering. I promote volunteerism, provide training to both volunteers and to organizations on how to engage volunteers and increase access to volunteer opportunities by developing programs that use volunteers to address critical community issues.
Community involvement: I have a unique position in that I am involved with the community and with volunteering on a daily basis. I have volunteered with all kinds of organizations and I am always amazed at how they do so much with so little. Volunteering lets me explore life through a different perspective and gives me a deeper understanding of others and myself.
Biggest professional success: I am proud of the fact that I have been able to grow the volunteer center by securing grant funding for a variety of different programs over the past several years such as the Youth Leadership Institute, Calendar Program and Volunteer Tax Assistance program for low-income families. The center has grown from a staff of one to a staff of four and keeps growing.
Dream job: I would rescue and rehabilitate hard-to-place animals on a huge sanctuary powered by wind and solar.
Businessperson she admires most and why: I admire all of the small business owners out there who spend countless hours managing and running their operations.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I would be an operations manager for a vegetable farm.
