Harry Wotton
Age: 37
Title: President
Company: Securos
Company location: Sturbridge
Residence: Woodstock, Conn.
College: Worcester Polytechnic Institut
Career highlights: I am the president of Securos and act as chief design engineer. I founded Securos in 1997 to market a new external skeletal fixation device, which I designed as a project at WPI. From 1997 to 2007, I grew the product range to cover all areas of orthopedics including long bone fractures, total joints, joint stabilization, spinal and surgical instrumentation. Over the first 10 years we were awarded six patents and have seven more pending. In 2007 I sold the company to MWI Veterinary Supply, a publicaly traded company that leads the industry in animal health. The sale was made to obtain the resources necessary to do things bigger, better and faster.
Community involvement: I am currently on the board of directors for the Tri-Community YMCA and play an active role on the executive committee. I am also a guest speaker in the biomedical engineering department at WPI. I also create projects for WPI students that I co-advise with a professor.
Biggest professional success: Without question, my biggest success has been becoming the world leader in veterinary orthopedics. Securos has transformed the face of veterinary orthopedics and we are known for very innovative, high quality products. We opened an office in Germany just over a year ago and I take great pleasure introducing the European veterinarians to the latest technology.
Businessperson he admires most and why: My father was an entrepreneur his entire life; my mother has been in finance for her entire career and taught me how to make good decisions; and my brother who is an accountant and has supported that portion of Securos.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I would coach sports at the local high school. I am very active in coaching little league and soccer for my family now and it would bring me great pleasure to be part of that when they get to high school.
