When 5 o'clock can't come fast enough and you can't decide what bores you more — your task list or the meeting you're in — it's time to think of ways to recharge your job satisfaction levels. Doing the same things the same way week after week can wear on anyone. Here are three ways to jumpstart your career and create avenues for satisfaction and accomplishment:
Get out of your comfort zone. Small business blogger Alyssa Gregory addresses the “shake-it-up” method in an article at Sitepoint.com; her advice is valuable for corporate executives as well. “When I encounter a situation that has me slightly nervous and anxious, I know right away that it is the perfect opportunity to push myself into a new and valuable experience,” she writes. This can mean learning new software, volunteering to serve on a company committee, or mentoring others.
Don't forget the rest of your life. Re-energizing yourself likely won't mean putting in more hours at the office — in fact, just the opposite. Focus on your “energy bank,” advises an article at ADifferentKindOfWork.com, by “making sure you have good things to engage with in other parts of your life: your partner, family, friends and hobbies.” Investing in these areas will leave you more resilient for challenges in the workplace and solidify avenues for overall satisfaction.
Transform foes into friends. We can't be expected to get along with everyone, and it's instinctual to gravitate toward team members we know or feel are “safe.” It may be beneficial to try and see others with a new perspective. “While it takes more imagination and effort to build the kind of relationships that can transform foes into friends from afar, those who do will be repaid with a deeper sense of connection to their teams and the work they share,” says an article at www.GuidedInsights.com.
