As COVID-19 began to have devastating local impacts, Reliant Foundation staff reached out to our current non-profit grantees and community partners back in March. Our goal at that time was to understand how the pandemic was affecting these organizations’ ability to serve the individuals, children and families who rely on their critical services, and to provide them with an opportunity to apply for emergency funds.
We also reached out to our donor base, through e-blasts and social media posts, to ask them to join our efforts in providing emergency support to those impacted by the pandemic.
To date, Reliant Foundation has distributed over $204,000 in emergency grants to 35 non-profits throughout Central and MetroWest Massachusetts. These non-profits provide life-saving mental health, behavioral health, substance use services and recovery support to our most vulnerable community members. The emergency funds will help establish critical Telehealth and virtual client support, childcare, food, and emergency supplies. The support of our donors is needed now more than ever, as we have additional requests coming in as we move from emergency to recovery.
1. The Foundation will connect the generosity of its donors to sustainable efforts that target significant public health issues and encourage healthy living for all.
2. We will be a leader and resource in health-focused fundraising and grant-making, delivering a meaningful grant-making program for the benefit of community organizations and the people they serve. In 2020, we will exceed a total of $4.3 million granted since 2008.
3. We will focus on the top community health needs, including the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing substance use disorder, and increasing access to mental health and behavioral health programs for children and youth. Our Foundation will serve as a community connector around these issues, participating on committees and hosting speakers and educational events when possible.
4. Our Foundation staff and trustees will make personal or online visits to public charities in our service area to identify and better understand the service gaps and challenges in the regions we serve.
5. We will actively participate in meetings tied to the work of the area CHIPs (Community Health Improvement Plans), CHNAs (Community Health Network Areas) and CHAs (Community Health Assessments).
