Worcester State University has four finalists to fill the president spot, including local candidate Mark P. Bilotta, CEO of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium.
The finalists in addition to Bilotta are:
• Stanley F. Battle, interim president of Southern Connecticut State University
• James F. Conneely, associate provost and vice president for student affairs, Eastern Kentucky University
• Barry M. Maloney, vice president of student affairs, Westfield State University
All four candidates will be invited to campus for final interviews by the university's board of trustees. The board plans to complete on-campus interviews by April 1 and make a final selection soon after that. It is expected the newly minted president will officially come on board July 1.
The new president will take over for Janelle Ashley, who announced her plans to retire in August 2010. Her last day is June 30.
Ashley was the first woman president of the school when she took the title in 2002.
