WPI Gets $621K In NIH Awards

Two Worcester Polytechnic Institute researchers will receive grants from the National Institutes of Health, one for research on stem cells and the other for work on the prevention of urinary tract infections.

Glenn Gaudette, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at WPI, will get $403,000 over two years for work using stem cells from bone marrow to repair damaged hearts. Terri Camesano, an associate professor of chemical engineering at the school, will get $218,000 for two years to study how cranberry juice prevents urinary tract infections.

Both researchers work from WPI’s Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park.
