Work done on Hopkinton apartment project

Construction has concluded on a $45 million, 240-unit apartment complex in Hopkinton, the developers announced Monday.

Alta Legacy Farms is waiting to receive a certificate of occupancy for the last of its seven buildings in the development, said Tyler Whittemore, a leasing consultant for Wood Partners. The other six buildings had already been completed, Whittemore said, and those units are about 35 percent occupied.

Alta Legacy Farms is a three-story, walkup development with 156 one-bedroom units of between 772 and 1,000 square feet each and 84 two-bedroom units of approximately 1,200 square feet each, with 60 of those units classified as affordable housing, according to Wood Partners. The development opened for leasing in June 2013 and is currently 43 percent leased, according to the company.

The 18-acre complex includes a clubroom, fitness center and outdoor lounge area, developers said, and has six acres of land set aside for conservation.

“The addition of Legacy Farms to the town of Hopkinton creates the opportunity for a significant draw of new people, new jobs and a new regional vitality,” Adelaide Grady, Wood Partners’ director of development in the Boston area, said in a statement. “These new apartments with all the conveniences are built on expertly conserved and restored surroundings.”

Alta Legacy Farms is part of the $500 million, 730-acre mixed-use Legacy Farms project, which will include 940 single-family and attached homes, 450,000 square feet of commercial space and more than 500 acres of preserved open space. A separate developer is responsible for the rest of the project, Whittemore said.

This project is sited on the former Weston Nurseries property.
