The Canal district's White Room at Crompton Collective will host former president Bill Clinton tonight at an 11th hour political rally for his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
The 240-person space in the Crompton building on Green Street has hosted political events in the past, but the former president will be the space’s most prestigious guest to date, said Amy Chase, who opened the event space in 2014. The event will hopefully bring a new crop of people to the area, Chase said.
“Just waking up and seeing my Google alerts about the Canal District was awesome in itself. We all work so hard down here and it was exciting to see,” she said.
Despite a crunched time schedule to prepare, having received confirmation of the event Sunday night, Chase enlisted local food trucks such as Say Cheese to ensure people waiting for the former president don’t go hungry.
“We always try to support other local businesses,” Chase said.
Doors for the event open at 9 p.m. with Clinton expected sometime after 11 p.m. The rally comes prior to Super Tuesday with recent polls showing Clinton and rival Bernie Sanders neck-and-neck in the Massachusetts presidential primary.
The White Room is booked through the end of the year for weddings, according to Chase, and also hosts an indoor farmer’s market during the winter.
