Construction to begin on $21M Worcester hotel

Construction has begun at the site of a long-term stay hotel on Washington Square.
Construction of the approximately 120-room extended stay hotel in Washington Square will be kicked off today with an official groundbreaking from First Bristol Corporation.
Demolition began at the site recently, but a lack of snow has allowed construction to begin. The Homeward Suites Hotel by Hilton will be located on the rotary near historic Union Station and an entrance to Route 290. According to city officials and business people, it will help with the revitalization of Worcester and serve a growing need for long-term lodging for contractors and others involved with area businesses.
The completed hotel will stretch up six stories and contain approximately 120 long-term stay rooms. Parking will consist of 115 spaces. The hotel is expected to employ 35 full and part-time workers and will generate more than $350,000 in property taxes and local hotel tax revenues, according to company representatives.
The project is being financed by East Boston Savings Bank and is being built by Tocci Building Companies on behalf of First Bristol Corporation.
