Worcester's Armsby Abbey to re-open in April

One of Worcester's most renowned restaurants, Armsby Abbey, will soon be back.

The popular restaurant and bar on Main Street on the northern edge of downtown, announced on social media late Monday night it plans to reopen in April.

"Today marks one year since we last welcomed you inside Armsby Abbey. ONE YEAR!" the restaurant posted on Twitter and Instagram. "The wait is almost over... we will be re-opening our doors in April! Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks. We have missed everyone dearly and can't wait to serve you all again!"

Early last spring during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Armsby switched to take-out only, setting up a table just outside its front door to keep patrons out. It also added take-out cocktail mixes. But the restaurant, known in particular for its rare beer selection, decided last June to close — initially until September, and then indefinitely. No news followed until Armsby's social media post late Monday.

Armsby co-owners Alec Lopez and Sherri Sadowski said last June they planned to close over the warmer months while people were spending more time outdoors. The restaurant has a very limited ability to provide outdoor seating on Main Street.

Instead, it ended up joining a list of other Worcester restaurants closed over the winter, including Brew City, Meze Estiatorio, both of which have also reopened. Worcester Beer Garden is slated to reopen April 13. Craft Table & Bar and Revolution Pie & Pint, two other downtown restaurants, remained temporarily closed.

The Dive Bar, which Lopez and Sadowski also ran, closed in 2019.
