Worcester Tops In Veteran Transition

Worcester is the top city in the state for military veterans to transition to civilian life, according to a survey of veterans released Friday by military.com and several other entities.

Released two days before Veterans Day, the survey ranked metropolitan areas around the country by access to education and economic stability. Weighted factors included employment opportunities in fields that align with military skill sets, such as defense, engineering, medical services and aviation; presence of colleges and universities; crime rates, taxes and recreational opportunities.

Areas with above-average unemployment, cost of living and crime rates were excluded.

While Worcester was deemed the best city in the state for veterans’ workforce transition, it did not make the top 10 in the country. The top three were Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Dallas.
