Worcester receives $15K to design food jobs program
Worcester has received $15,000 towards helping emerging food entrepreneurs and small food retailers, and thus area unemployment, according to the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC).
Worcester won one of ten Working Cities Challenge grants to support its “food economy” concept in addressing unemployment for disadvantaged workers, according the WCAC. Worcester’s project focuses on helping emerging food entrepreneurs and small food retailers, and thus area unemployment.
The grants are part of a second round of Working Cities Challenge funding. That funding will go towards a larger program that will assist unemployed, or under-employed, workers facing disadvantages, including as youth, women, immigrants, racial/ethnic minorities, veterans, and the hard-to-employ.
Partners in the Worcester project include the city of Worcester, Clark University, the Regional Environmental Council, and Sodexo. WCAC and Clark are the co-lead applicants for Worcester's effort.
