Worcester healthier than the average city

Worcester lands a little better than most cities when it comes to the health of its residents, according to a new study.

Worcester ranks 57th out of the nation’s 150 largest cities, WalletHub reported in the results of a study it released Monday. That falls behind Boston (31st) but ahead of Providence (78th).

The study looked at a range of factors, including fruit and vegetable consumption, fitness clubs per capita, available open recreation space, and the cost of visiting a doctor.

Worcester’s best attribute among those factors were for fitness clubs per capita, for which it landed 39th nationally.

Topping the list was San Francisco, followed by Salt Lake City and Scottsdale, Ariz. Detroit was termed the least healthy, followed by Brownsville, Texas, and Memphis, Tenn.
