Following a nationwide trend, personal income in Worcester and Middlesex counties slowed in 2008, according to recently released data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Personal income increased by 3.7 percent in 2008 in Worcester County after growing 6.1 percent in 2007. For the state, personal income growth slowed from 5.7 percent to 2.8.
Middlesex County, which includes many MetroWest communities, posted a sharp drop from a 5.7 percent increase in 2007 to only a 2.8 percent gain in 2008. Middlesex County, however, continues to be the wealthiest in the state with $89.4 billion in income collected, compared to $34.2 billion in income collected in Worcester County.
