Worcester Biotech Co. Secures Patents

Worcester-based Crescent Innovations Inc. , a biotech company currently developing technologies to treat degenerative jaw and joint disorders, has been awarded two notices of allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The company expects the patents to be issued soon.

The first patent will cover Crescent technology to treat TMJ disorders, or ailments of the jaw joint. Crescent has been developing non-surgical treatments for TMJ disorders since its founding, according to Al Prescott, company president.

The company's second patent relates to a method the company is developing for producing a biological polymer called polyglutamic acid, which can alleviate joint pain and has shown promise as a drug delivery mechanism, Prescott said. The polymer can be injected directly into joints.
