Dunkin Donuts has opened two new locations in California in preparation for a large expansion into the Golden State.
"Today we continue to celebrate our highly anticipated expansion to California, starting with the opening of our new restaurants in Modesto and Santa Monica," said Paul Twohig, President, Dunkin' Donuts US and Canada, and Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Europe and Latin America.
The two stores represent the beginning of an effort by the Canton-based company to expand into California a second time with 200 stores planned in the next several years, according to the company. Dunkin’ previously had around a dozen shops in the Los Angeles area but closed them in the late 1990s, according to the Los Angeles Times, followed by an attempted comeback in Sacramento in 2002.
The company already has three nontraditional locations in the state, according to the Times. The Modesto and Santa Monica locations offer the full menu of beverages, sandwiches and baked goods.
The two franchisers of the new locations will open 10 restaurants throughout Los Angeles County, according to Dunkin’ Donuts, and the company plans to open more than 1,000 restaurants throughout the state.
