Westborough tech firm acquires Utah AI company specializing in detecting food defects

Westborough-based KPM Analytics acquired Utah-based Smart Vision Works, a company that creates systems using artificial intelligence to sort objects by size and defects for agriculture and food companies.

Financial terms of the deal and its impact on employees were not disclosed.

“The addition of Smart Vision Works to our existing Sightline Process Control and EyePro System machine vision businesses allows us to provide additional data and technologies for our customers to leverage in their production processes,” KPM CEO Brain Mitchell said in a Monday press release. “We strongly believe that the advanced AI capabilities within Smart Vision Works will advance our offerings across all of the end markets we serve.”

Smart Vision Works’ system can be trained to recognize foreign objects in a production line, allowing them to be removed and keeping customers from unwanted surprises and the company safe from recalls.

KPM Analytics is a producer of scientific instrumentation serving primarily the food, feed, agriculture, and environmental sectors.
