Westborough, in crisp, clear HD

The Westborough Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to grant a cable franchise to Verizon, paving the way for the company to offer its FiOS TV service in the town, Verizon said.

The franchise agreement contains provisions for the network's future growth, financial support and capacity for educational and government access channels, cable service to government buildings and insurance, indemnification and enforcement provisions.

Westborough represents the state's 53rd community where Verizon FiOS TV is available.

FiOS TV is a fiber-optic television service, which the company says offers better picture quality, more HD programming, more on-demand content and better reliability than standard cable.

Verizon officials said the company will soon begin a door-to-door sales campaign in the town, promoting the new service.
