WeCare CPR makes first aid training fun

Ask many people to describe their experience with first aid training and they’re likely to say, "Boring." Not so with classes offered by WeCare CPR, where instructors and trainers are not only highly qualified, they’re also personable, articulate communicators.

WeCare CPR offers training in first aid, cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). "Our classes provide the necessary information presented in a manner that’s easy to understand," says Darcy Cook, president. "They’re interactive and fun."

For employers, WeCare CPR offers flexibility in scheduling. On-site training programs are available 24 hours a day, six days a week. Classes are customized to meet specific needs with a ratio of one trainer for every 10 students. WeCare provides ample equipment, so that no more than two students share practice mannequins.

"We don’t teach generic classes," Cook says. "WeCare incorporates our clients’ policies and procedures on emergency preparedness and workplace safety."

With a background in physical therapy and a management degree, Cook developed a business model geared to the needs of corporate clients.

WeCare training programs include the American Heart Association (AHA) and the National Safety Council. The company’s certification programs also meet industry standards and comply with guidelines of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Title 29 of the U.S. Code, the state Office of Child Care Services, the Department of Public Health and others.

There is growing need for first aid training in the workplace. OSHA states that in the absence of an infirmary, clinic or hospital or emergency care greater than 4 minutes away, a person or persons must be adequately trained to render first aid in the workplace. The Office of Childcare Services mandates that all individuals who work with children be certified yearly in first aid and CPR. And the Department of Public Health requires all restaurants with a seating capacity greater than 25 to have someone trained in obstructed airway training (choking). All licensed healthcare providers are expected to have a current CPR certification.

WeCare’s industrial first aid course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical personnel arrive. Other corporate safety and first aid classes are geared for hotels and restaurants, health and fitness centers, telecommunications companies, senior centers, state and government agencies, administrative offices and many others.

"When employers offer emergency care training, they build teamwork, confidence and a sense of security among their employees," Cook says.

Experts note a big demand for safety training in bloodborne pathogens for healthcare professionals, lab technicians, security guards, daycare providers, firefighters, police officers and workplace emergency response teams.

"If you come into contact with blood or other body fluids, there’s a risk of infection for diseases like HIV and hepatitis B and C," Cook explains. "WeCare’s courses explain how disease is transmitted and how to control exposure through precautions and personal protective clothing and equipment."

The growing popularity of AEDs has generated demand for classes in how to properly use the devices. WeCare’s AED course teaches basic techniques of adult CPR and how to recognize the signs of a heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest and airway obstruction.

"WeCare makes it easy for everyone to learn to use an AED," Cook says. "Our programs give you all the information and skills you need to establish a PAD (public access to defibrillation) program."
