WBJ Talk Back from the Aug. 1, 2011 issue

Summer Daze
A recent op-ed by Andy Sum, director of the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University, and Rosalie Lawless, chair of the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board, brought attention to the lack of funding for summer jobs for teens. The advocacy sparked one reader to share his support for the issue, and a solution that relies less on government dollars:

“I agree with your call for more attention to the issue of youth employment. We should all work for solutions that don’t require government funding.”

Homegrown
Our June 6 issue featured profiles of the 2011 Central Mass. Family Business Award winners. Included in the group of seven honorees was E.T.&L. Corp. of Hudson, which is led by Jennie Lee Colosi. One online reader posted her support for the Colosis’s work on maintaining the family business, which is now in its second generation.

“Congratulations, Jennie, on making sure a family-owned business continues to thrive in Massachusetts!”

Market Watch
On our LinkedIn discussion group, we asked members what their take was on the housing market. Have we finally entering recovery mode, or do we have a long way to go before we see housing prices bounce back in Central Massachusetts? The response from readers, including the comment below, indicates that it’ll be a tough market for some time to come:

“I see it staying level for 18 months, then in 2013, we could see slower but consistent appreciation…. I’m not trying to sound pessimistic. I actually think consistent slower growth would be a good thing!”
