The U.S. economy added 103,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate held steady at 9.1 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Part of the gain in employment was a result of the return to work of about 45,000 Verizon workers who had been on strike when employment was measured in August. Other sectors gaining jobs were professional and business services, health care and construction.
The number of unemployed people held steady at about 14 million.
